Overplaying Their Hand

The news, depending upon one’s perspective, just keeps getting better and better.. The poll numbers, which is the formaldehyde that courses through the veins of the liberal political animal, are coincidentally heading in the same direction that the liberals are taking this country.. Downhill. The American public might be paying closer attention because they can’t afford to be “paying” for anything else of late because of the Obama antics. This should surprise no one and the loyal opposition should be more than elated..

From the article entitled, “Democrats’ Blues Grow Deeper in New Poll” (WSJ), we read that “support for the Democratic Party continues to slump amid a difficult economy and a wave of public discontent..” Maybe if the liberals hadn’t concentrated on playing “Demokratic Demolition Derby” with the economy that they have made “difficult”, their delusional Three-Card Monte version of politics might have lasted until after the midterm elections. One of the interesting facets of this is the “difficult economy” and those it directly involves are the distinctly different groups who are part of this “wave of discontent”..

The “difficult economy” affects those who fall into the “hoodwinked” category back in November. They work, they create and they are not permanent siphons upon the nation. They thought that they were doing the “right thing” after Obama repeatedly puled about “they are trying to scare you about me” every five minutes during his shampaign. They picked up on the “cleanse yourself of your inherent racism by voting for me..” mantra being used by the leftists. The “wave of discontent” people are the permanent underclass of moochers and mendicants enabled for, and addicted by, the liberals for generations. They’ve had their hand out since January and they are getting tired because it isn’t being filled quickly enough for them. Their perpetual class envy has transformed into a liberal “crass envy” and it’s coming to a boil..

The article talks about the “soaring approval ratings” and how the “voters expressed optimism about the future” along with the “ambitious agenda”. These fallacies were all stoked by the liberals themselves, convinced that their filibuster-proof majority would allow them to run roughshod over the nation and that, as all liberals do, they believe that they know what is best for EVERYONE. When socialism is the cornerstone of your political thinking, the realities of capitalism and socialism’s affect upon it are as foreign to them as the workings of the shower stall..

The liberals have made a career out of making pie in the sky Pollyanna promises to their progressive parasites. The liberals, like Hitler, believed that the bigger lie that you tell the more likely it is that those who blindly follow you will believe it. This time around, the liberals decided to go “all in” just for giggles. The leftists believed that what they couldn’t “steal from the rich and give to the poor” they could acquire by simply printing as much valueless currency as they need. The sponges want everyone else’s money and they want it NOW. They didn’t read the “fine print” in the “stimulus” gibberish that intentionally programs the payoffs to coincide with the midterm election.. The liberals want EVERYONE to suffer for nearly two years, THEN they will come to the rescue.. Sort of..

“High expectations”, exaggerated by the liberals themselves were set too high in order to beat the monochromatic McCain. Even after securing office, “the promise” of the presidency of the “Not so Dark Knight” had the handout addicts of the left foaming with excitement. Once again the liberals used their Bolshevik bellows to fan the fascist flames with dreams of socialist sugarplums. “We will take over private industry starting with GM and Chrysler, we will “stimulate” the economy by destroying capitalism and the free market, we will tax evil corporations (the middle class) to death, we will “green” the whole world, (Yesterday’s 100 billion dollar “promise” at the Copenhagen claptrap..) and health care for everyone!! Did we leave anybody out?..” The liberal underclass’s desire to freely put their hands in the pockets of their superiors was too powerful an aphrodisiac for the liberals to be bandying about in such a cavalier manner..

“Public discontent is being driven by an unusually grim view of the country’s status and future prospects..” This “unusually grim view” is called the REALITY of the collectivist Obama agenda. These are the mistakes of political tyros.. “Now for the first time, more people have said they would prefer Congress did nothing on health care than who wanted to see the overhaul (takeover) enacted..” The liberals have once again proven that motion is relative. By standing still, the imbeciles might have been seen by their politically blind barnacles to have been “moving forward”.. Another few rounds of progressive polysyllabic puffery spoon fed to the (m)asses would have gotten them over the hump..

The “dampening enthusiasm among core party voters” has nothing to do with economic realities. They were “promised” untold riches stolen from “the rich” and it hasn’t materialized. They were “promised” immediate “action” which meant another government check or three and they are still anxiously waiting by the mailbox for the moolah. The leftist rabble is used to standing in line for my money but even they appear to have a limit to their patience..

“Mike Ashmore, 23 years old, of Lansdale, Pa., an independent who supported Obama last year but now complained about the president’s lack of action on jobs..” Here is an example of someone who has almost seen the light.. Obama has delivered on “action”, he just hasn’t delivered on “results”. Obama will just blame “the mess he inherited” and he will say that he “tried”. Those who have truly “seen the light” demand RESULTS and won’t understand Obama’s “plan” to possibly begin rescuing those suffering inordinately for nearly two years under the direction of his caliphate.

The “feelings” of the Democratic “core supporters” should be of particular interest. “A third of voters 34 and under feel negative toward the Democratic Party..” As a particularly dysfunctional group of invertebrates, the liberals live and die based upon “feelings”. These are the “MySpacecadets” and the “Twitter-twits” who form the largest sum of the ADD, hungover and stoned liberal base. They have been promised a Bolshevik bounty and it hasn’t arrived..and it never will.

Domocratic pollster Peter Hart said, “For Democrats, the red flags are flying at full mast..” To the rest of us, those “red flags” have a hammer and sickle upon them and that is the problem.. Republican pollster Bill McInturff said, “Have we reached the bottoming-out point?” I refuse to sell the liberals short on this type of patented Democraik uni-directional politics.. So, the Reds and Greens have the Blues.. More than anything, this is just the liberals typically overplaying their hand..

  1. Family,

AGAIN: please ignore the “possibly related posts” listed after each article.

    They usually lead to nowhere..

    Thanks as always,

  2. Larry,

Once again, you have a winner! Wishing you and the NLTZ Family a very Merry Christmas!

  3. I posted this under the last article, with a few updates since yesterday..

Well it looks like the scandal that forced Obama’s personal attorney; Greg Craig has come to the forefront. Their disagreement and the force resignation were about the move of Gitmo prisoners to the Thomson Illinois maximum-security prison. I found it rather odd why they even built a prison that was never used to begin with. I’m reminded of the movie “Field of Dreams” if you build it they (scumbag criminal parasites) will come.”

As the elected/appointed scumbags put their spin on it trying to reassure the people that this is a good and positive opportunity for Illinois. Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says selling a prison in rural northwest Illinois is an “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to create jobs for this struggling area in Illinois (it’s struggling because of liberal policies).

However, plans to sell the prison that would then be used to house some detainees from the Guantánamo Bay detention center in Cuba is creating controversy because of safety concerns.

Federal officials are expected at Thomson Correctional Center next Monday to inspect the prison. Ah, but Governor Quinn says Illinois is being considered along with at least two other cities in Colorado and Montana. Is it just a coincidence that these are mostly liberal States? I think not, they will always be on board to support and defend their supreme leader, Barack Obama. Doesn’t matter that these are all corrupt states in Our Union. Therefore, that could only mean one thing, grease many palms to make it happen.

Enter US Sen. Dick Durbin traveled around the state with Quinn on Sunday to sell the idea of a prison deal, (where’s Howie Mandel with his Deal or No Deal game show). The Democrat says he hopes Illinois has an edge because President Barack Obama knows about the economic climate in the area around prison. That’s because he destroyed it to begin with.

Is it just me or has every move this lying liberal scumbag (Obama) has done over that last 11 months are generally against what the majority of America really wants?

What the liberals did yesterday, those in this administration and their supporters was indefensible and preposterous to threaten Joe Lieberman wife, Hadassah. It’s even a new low for the liberals, one I’d never thought I’d hear, I thought we had seen and heard the worse from Bill and Hillary Clinton (I just want them to go away). To threaten a woman who has spent her entire career working on women’s health issues, assisting non-profit organizations. She is also devoted to community services (but isn’t a Community organizer), having served on several national nonprofit councils and boards. She continues to be a voice on many important issues, one of them being Breast Cancer and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure http://ww5.komen.org/ Foundation a major breast cancer charity (and one I worked on a number of times, being the daughter of a mother who died from breast cancer).

I’m sure Larry’s next essay will be about just that. It’s no wonder why Senator Lieberman folded like an origami, when the liberals and their leader verbally attacked his wife. Has Obama come out against what they did? I certainly haven’t heard him condemn what they did. He was being pressured by his former colleagues and friends to push a healthcare reform bill that majority of the public does not want, partly because there is no reform, only more government controls.

Now, word is Obama and his “followers” have threatened Ben Nelson, which if he does not support the Healthcare Reform Bill, Nebraska will lose their Air Force base, Offutt Air Force Base will be closed. He will remove all funding and eventually it will close for good. If you don’t play along with this administration, Obama will take all your toys away. I don’t know about you but didn’t he promise to uphold the United States Constitution? Didn’t he repeat these words (at least twice) I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Last time I heard, didn’t Ben Nelson represent all the people in Nebraska and not just the Democratic Party? I don’t know but isn’t that treason? I don’t maybe the definition of Treason changed. Maybe these words best of my Ability, means he has no ability. Whadda you think? Is he telling us he’s inadequate and not up for the job?

What is quite clear is our Congress and President are heading down a destructive path. I’d trust the mafia over this group of parasites. Even Don Vito and Michael Corleone had their principles. Who would have thought that the term “our enemies foreign and domestic” would be our President and our Congress? It’s a full on attack of “free will.”

The women responsible for this attack, Jane Hamsher a movie producer was just someone I had just started looking into and the liberal candidates she gives money too. Ms Hamsher claimed that because Mrs. Lieberman was a lobbyist and had worked for the pharmaceutical industry, she should be fired from her position as global ambassador for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer charity.

First of all, most of our Senator’s staff are Lobbyist and I don’t recall hearing her complain about that. My God, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer’s staff are full of former Lobbyist; if they are booted out of Office will return to their true calling. They hire them to negotiate between the murky and muddled waters of the Political Revolving Door, a well-used form of political corruption and both parties use it. You see, it’s really all a game, sort of like a live version of Clue, maybe Monopoly. Here’s how this game works.

A political candidate needs donations to run for Office (God forbid they won’t use their own money). Therefore, they seek out people who can drive the money towards them. They find their “platform” such as gun control or pro-choice, then they hire well-connected individuals who have the ear and heart to rally financial support for “their” client, the politician. Certain Lobbyist firms generally handle a few types of industries in Dianne Feinstein’s case it’s about UNIONS, Environment (which her husband, Richard C. Blum is an investment banker, who like Pelosi husband is heavily “invested” in Environmental Controls), Defense contractors Medical industries such as Drug makers, Health Insurance, etc.

Therefore, she looks for a lobbyist who works for a firm that might represent the SEIU, CWA, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, AARP, Aerospace Defense and/or AFL-CIO. She found it in Laura Morgan (a major Revolving Door candidate) who at one time worked for the Washington Lobbyist firm, Van Scoyoc Associates, who represents clients/industries such as Transportation, Pharmaceutical /Health Products, Insurance Agencies (UnitedHealthcare. Blue Cross/Blue Shields), Defense Contractor’s, Environmental Services, Waste Management and Hospital/Nursing Homes are just a few industries they represent.

Many of these lobbyist also hold a law license, I guess so they know just how far they can bend the law without breaking it totally (even they have their standards). Ms Morgan’s job for Dianne Feinstein is Legislative Correspondent. I think it’s her job to meld the two “clients” together without actually meeting each other.

Generally, the new Government employee/former Lobbyist has a specialty, which generally matches the Senate/House Committee that the federal politician just happens to be on. Morgan represented Defense Contracts clients and Feinstein was on both the Appropriations and Arm Services Committee’s and their subcommittees. Perfect match, a love connection.

A few years ago, Feinstein was forced to withdraw as Chair of the subcommittee on the Armed Forces Committee, the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee because she straddled the line between a subcommittee’s allocations of multimillions of dollars in defense contracts to companies partly owned by her husband, Richard Blum. Coincident? Probably not.

Anyway, in 2002, she wanted to know from Pentagon officials why Army bases weren’t being protected. The next year, she demanded to know why funds allocated for anti-terror protection had not been spent. As online news organization reported, that “Just over a month later, URS announced a $600 million contract to provide services for U.S. Army bases that included anti-terrorism force protection.” I guess they didn’t do a great job in Fort Hood, huh?

On another occasion, Ms. Feinstein asked a military official when money would be spent on a facility at Hickam Air Base in Hawaii. URS later announced a $42 million contract to build the “new” facility.

Feinstein apparently made the initial offer to secure funds for the FDIC, just a few days before the agency awarded Blum’s firm the lucrative contract to sell foreclosed properties. So, in other words, at the very least it appears Senator Feinstein greased the wheels at the FDIC with an offer of a large chunk of cash at the very moment the agency was considering Blum’s firm for a lucrative contract. Then once her husband got the deal, she delivered the goods.

As you are probably aware, Senate ethics rules state that members must not only avoid conflicts of interest but also “the appearance of a conflict of interest.”

Senator Dianne Feinstein has obviously failed that test. Unfortunately she’s still on a Sub-Committee that I think is still a conflict of interest. The Sub-Committee of Defense and since her husband is heavily invested in Defense Contractor’s businesses, could mean she could still influence other members.

Of course the California Democrat denies there is any connection between the legislation and the contract awarded to her husband. However, there is a precedent for this type of corrupt behavior by Feinstein.

While the Pentagon ultimately awards military contracts, there is a reason for the review process. The Senate’s subcommittee on Military Construction’s approval carries weight. Senator Feinstein, therefore, likely had influence over a decision making process that enriched her husband (and herself!).

Therefore, I ask, where Ms Hamsher outrage is over the California corruption. Why isn’t she demanding Dianne Feinstein’s resignation over a clear conflict of interest because her Senate representative just happens to be a liberal with her same morals and values? Opps, I forgot they have none.

    There’s more, much more.

  4. Great post Larry: Sadly 60 people hold the future of our country, 300,000,00+ people in a death grip. They could care less about us, Pelosi said she is willing to let 30 members of the house loose their seats so Health Care Denial can pass. We need to wake up quickly and take this country back. There are 535 of them and how many of us? Wake up America these freaks are selling our country out from under us. Jim

  5. Michele from NY

“To the rest of us, those “red flags” have a hammer and sickle upon them and that is the problem.. ” Indeed…and the “rest of us” are finished with this assministration and the creeps that inhabit it. Done, done, done.

Merry Christmas to you Larry and the rest of the family…thanks for letting me know there truly is intelligent life out there.

  6. @ Eileen you are most welcome to come and comment at my sight your post was outstanding, I’ll bet you enjoy yourself there. I’m Jim

  7. Dave, Anaheim, CA

    Another really great post Larry.
Your words are inspiring and they give us all hope that if we can hold on until November 2010, things will get better.
The problem we are facing is the fact that the current events have been carefully planned since Truman was in office. They Communist takeover of the United States is almost complete and they are not planning on having any more elections. What we have in office now is what we are going to have in office until a major armed conflict against these clowns takes place.
Words are good for calming the masses, but actions speak louder than words.
It is just too painful to watch the demise of what was once the greatest country in the world.
The only promise obama has kept was “America is the greatest country on earth and I intend to change that.”

  8. Like I have said to all that will listen. BUY GOLD & BUY LEAD.

  9. Margaret in CT

The libs such as Bernie Sanders (hapless Communnist, VT) still think they can dress this health care bill up in a different dress with different accessories (a 700-page amendment) and sneak the single-payer plan by us. They still operate on the “you’re stupid, I’m not” assumption.

We have a chance to completely cripple these dreary globalists eleven months from now, if we can agree on a Constitutition- and capitalism-based philosophy that will stop Nancy and Harry from their continued attempts to lay railroad tracks in the House and Senate to expedite their socialist dreams.

  10. You’re partially correct. The Big Lie operates on the premise that if you tell a big lie often enough it becomes accepted as true. The Nazis knew how to do it because they were masters of propaganda. The Germans were believing them right up until they were shown the concentration camps and forced to acknowledge what had happened.

Unfortunately, we, the American people, need to have that moment of revelation, and it hasn’t happened yet. Like any drunk or drug addict we haven’t hit rock bottom yet (like Germany did with the Weimar Republic, and the final battles in the homeland in 1945), and it is only then when recovery can occur. We need to have the great disaster happen, we need see our prosperity taken from us and our liberty stolen and our fates sealed by external forces before we finally learn the lesson of why voting for liberals is a bad thing. If we use Germany as an anology again, they haven’t voted a Nazi into office since the war sixty-five years ago.

Larry I read your posts at leat twice to catch all
the comments as the variety is outstanding.
Love the snow blizzard in cop and haggen freeze out the global warmes
Will post more comments when i reread your article

  12. I believe that Obama may actually be the saviour of our country. He has aroused people from their apathetic stupor and caused them to realize just how bad things can be if we don’t pay attention. OK, lesson learned …..class over….how do we do a recall? Oh….one more thing….let’s rethink allowing 18 year olds to vote.

  13. Eileen,

About Obama threating Senator Ben Nelson of Nebrask in the closing of Offutt Air Force Base. Let me put it this way, that boy stands as much chance of doing that as he does of turning white.

Offutt is still the Strategic Air Command headquarters, in effect, for our national Air-Force. This includes the underground facilities monotoring (in which I’ve worked as a contractor) although the above ground, re-fueling tankers, global radar flights and fighter jets have decrease, the base is very much involved in our national defense weaponry including missle launching along with Iron Mountain.

I graduated from Bellevue Highschool when many re-fueling tankers were a regular sight. I’ve been there and still am here. Offutt Air Force Base is not going away, it’s more of the liberal liar’s talk and no walk.

Hopefully Nelson will cling to his statements. Our state Governor, Dave Hienemen, echoing the minds of most Nebraskans, wrote to him expressing his dis-approval of the health care bill. If he holds fast this sin upon We The People will be defeated!

  14. I’m very glad to hear that Joe. I hope he sticks to his guns and not go on the take like the others. I’m not confident that he’ll stick to his word. Poor hapless Harry must be pulling his hair out. His starting to sound senile.

I found a great deal of documentation of Hillary Care online today and have read some of the back and forth correspondences behind all the parties. I would love to compare HillaryCare verses ObamaCare. There was a great deal of debate and you can see where they were going with all this even then. They had someone review the plans and make comments on what was good and what was bad. They recommended tort reform and someone marked over that in handwriting. Not possible. They are getting desperate and when people get desperate they make bad choices.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned white. Remember Michael Jackson came out of his mother’s womb a black child and left this earth a white men.

  15. Larry and Family:

I wish those of the family who are Jewish a very
Happy Hannukah and I wish those of the family who are Christian a very Merry Christmas.

  16. LadyWolf,

I second that. Happy Channukah or Hannukah (what’s the correct spelling) and a very Merry Christmas. And everyone have a safe and Happy New Year. Let’s all hope it’s better than this one!!!

  17. Watch as more and more members of the house refuse to defend their seats in 2010, they see the writing on the wall. ( 9 have already given notice)

Obama is living proof that one should not surround himself with people less intelligent then he is. Of course they think they are smart, problem is their proposed promises will lead to us taking back both houses and render Obama a lame duck his last two years. Its great fun to watch the Democrats implode and start eating their young, I’m Jim

  18. Eileen,

Senator Nelson is having problems with the abortion language in the health care bill. He has introduced an amendment which was turned down flat by the socialists in charge of the tradgedy. A compromise was offered but Nelson still takes issue with that along with other articles he finds would have a negative impact.

Nebraska is a Red State and overwhemingly against any health care reform by the government 80% – 20% for it. The smaller percentage of the 20% being a smattering of “stardusted” ignoramuses spread out through the state while the majority of them, I’ll wager, are Omaha’s inner city. Those that saw color and said, “I obey.”

As far as Michael Jackson is concerned, I don’t believe he ever got around to changing his DNA.
In Obama’s words, “Put lipstick on a pig…”??

  19. Jim, Larry and al at,

No offense but I’m not sure getting back the House and Senate would remove the worries of the Constituents of this Countries problems. I’m not confident that our troubles and problems would be any better under Republican control. If we want to remove Government corruption, all of it from both parties, they all need to GO.

If you could read what I found, I think most of you would agree. I’m quarter done with my research on the Senate, I’ve got about 25 Senator’s done, and I have yet to find one that’s honest and incorruptible. Some of the names have surprised me, what a disappointment it has been but it has opened my eyes that has assisted me in my statement that, they all need to go. Once again, it’s all about MONEY, SEX AND POWER that is a great aphrodisiac, they become drunk and/or overdosed by it as if they are a skid-row junkie. They all need a 12 step program to wean them off of this cycle of corruption that has been forced on the American taxpayers.

If it’s not about money, then it’s about mostly sex but some power and control. The longer a person remains in Government, whether it’s local, state or federal, the more corrupt they become. Let me explain that.

Let’s say someone went to law school and decided they wanted to go into politics, they most likely will go to their local government, because they need more experience to seek higher office. They become a Mayor, City Councilman, etc., where they learn all about government corruption. They smelled the money and were hooked by the thrill of descent.

They then move on to State Government. They run for Governor, State Senator or Representative. And, now the corruption is much deeper, there’s more money involved, they now have more power and control. They sink deeper into the corruption abyss. They are hooked and cannot stop themselves. They want more money and power; this is where the sex scandals start popping up in the state news headlines. When you hold a lot of power and money (6 figure sums) this is where it brings out the gold diggers, ingénues, groupies, other assortment of skanks/whore/union leaders and other leaches appear to stand beside this State official. They then become hooked by then, they are drunk on power and money (and for some sex). They crave more money and power so they start dreaming of Federal power and money (now in the millions). They run for a federal government office or become an acquaintance and/or confident to another high powered federal government official and they are then appointed to a power position.

A lot of this came out during the Clinton Administration, especially about Hillary. (Did you know that she is the most investigated politician in the history of this Country? She even surpassed Richard Nixon and her husband. There are at least 10 to 15 lawsuits pending regarding her actions during her campaign for President). She broke numerous Federal Election Commission mandates and regulations during both the Senate and Presidential campaigns, took questionable donations, you name it there’s a lawsuit for it but even the Senate Ethic Committee refused to investigate one of their own, so even the Ethics Committee is corrupt and a joke. The members of the Senate Ethic Committee are as followed:

    • Barbara Boxer, California, Chairwoman
    • Mark Pryor, Arkansas
    • Sherrod Brown, Ohio
    • Johnny Isakson, Georgia, Vice Chairman
    • Pat Roberts, Kansas
    • Jim Risch, Idaho

Four of them I’ve investigated who are corrupt or have many questionable activities in their past and/or present. The other two I have not investigated yet, but since I’m batting zero to twenty-five trying to find just one Senator who is honest and has no questionable ghosts in their political closet, the chances are greater that they are not on the side of honesty. They constantly cover for one another, does matter what party their with. It’s like sending Col. Sanders into the chicken coop, in order to investigate there should be no politicians on that Committee. They need to remove themselves because its clear they cannot be impartial because they know each other, probably very well. I think they are afraid that if you look at their background, then they could look into my background mentality.

They’ve investigated Chris Dodd who is one of the most corrupt politicians in Congress right now and the toughest reprimand the members of the bipartisan Ethic Committee said was it did not look good so don’t do it again. Yooouuuu’vvveee been a baddddddddddddd boyyyy! Even if both he and Kent Conrad were members of the “Friends of Angelo” and also received donation from him for re-election bids (as well as high ranking employee’s of the former financial intuition known as Countrywide and some who are now Washington Lobbyist). So isn’t it in their best interest to be a friend of Angelo Mozilo, because not only do they get a great interest rate for their many home mortgages, they also receive financial support by way of campaign donations. Since some of those who received the same donations are on the Ethics Committee, should they even be allowed to even investigate any impropriety on the part of their own Senate members? I think that’s a fair question but will it ever be answered? Probably not.

Back to the other corrupt but vague federal politician. They’ve all got a good deal going. Generally, they only work a few hours a day, on only Tuesday through Thursday hours, most times. Monday and Friday’s they are off. They receive a yearly pay raise whether they deserved it or not, by a few more thousand dollars of taxpayers money.

The Framers of the Constitution established a system they had hoped would prevent not only the disproportionate accumulation of “influence” in one branch of government, but also the disproportionate accumulation of “privilege.”

Unfortunately the latest group of liberal/progressives criminals have weaved a web of privilege, entitlements and special privilege for themselves (and their inner circle of supporters) and now they control not only the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court, Federal and State Appeals Courts through out this Country. They’ve invaded most big City governments, a large number of state governments. They have their greedy and corrupt paws in everything and in every aspect of Government. This is what the Framers wanted to prevent.

I think that many can no long see that what they are doing is corrupt. They’ve taught themselves to say… because of what I do, I’m privileged and entitled to all these perks. Here is just a short list of what they are allowed under the rules of government.

Comfortable salaries that they are often determined through legislation in a sort of sleight-of-hand. Contrary to the arguments of many Washington “insiders,” the cost of living has rarely eroded the historical value of lawmakers’ pay, which on a constant-dollar basis is hovering near the postwar high. Doesn’t really matter that most are millionaires. Because of what they do, they deserve it.

They receive pension benefits that are two to three times more generous than those offered in the private sector for similarly-salaried executives. Taxpayers directly cover at least 80 percent of this costly plan the remaining 20 percent comes from their own contributions. Congressional pensions are also inflation-protected, a feature that fewer than 1 in 10 private plans offer.

Health and life insurance, approximately 3/4 and 1/3 of whose costs, respectively, are subsidized by the American taxpayers.

Wheeled or travel/transportation perks, including limousines for senior Members of Congress, prized parking spaces on Capitol Hill, and choice spots at Washington’s two major airports Reagan and Dulles.

Travel to far-flung destinations as well as to home states and districts. Despite recent attempts to toughen gift and travel rules, “junkets” are still readily available prerogatives for most members of Congress, as well as their staff. A wide range of smaller perks that have defied reform efforts, from cut-rate health clubs to fine furnishings all at taxpayers expense.

Ah, but the very nature of public office in and of itself demands a more comprehensive definition of the word “perk” than that which is normally applied to corporate America. Members of Congress can also wield official powers that allow them to continue to enjoy the personal benefits, they are:

The franking privilege, which gives lawmakers millions in tax dollars to create a favorable public image. Experts across the political spectrum have labeled the “frank” as an unfair electioneering marketing tool. In past election cycles, Congressional incumbents have spent as much on franking alone as challengers have spent on their entire campaigns. Franking is printed or a stamped impressions, codings, labels, manuscript/writings (including “privilege” signatures), and/or any other authorized form of markings affixed or applied to mails to qualify them to be part of the postal service.

An office staff that performs “constituent services” and doles out pork-barrel spending, providing more opportunities for “favors” that can be returned only at election time. This is where most politicians become greedy and eventually become corrupt and are voted out by their constituents. They want more money from their constituents and eventually repay that backed by giving them a Government Contract for one reason for another. This can include Lobbyist whose client is looking for a contract or a favor from a certain politician.

They receive an exemptions and immunities from taxes, pension, and other laws that burden private citizens — all crafted by these same lawmakers themselves. This also includes raises for themselves. A few years ago, they used to have one lawmaker (and 50 co-sponsors) to put a bill in for a vote to Congress to request a much needed raise. The public got wind of it and became outraged so what they did was they created one bill that’s open ended that gives them a raise every February, just another $3,000 to $4,000 dollar raise will go into effect for themselves, inflation be dammed. It must be nice to give yourself a raise and chose how much that will be.

Congressional pay and perks directly add hundreds of millions of dollars to the yearly bill that the Americans taxpayers are forced to pay for federal government employees which is a significant cost for all taxpayers (or at least those who actually pay there taxes), even if the political pundits dismiss the amount as a “drop in the bucket,” but when your dealing with trillions and billions, who cares that the taxpayers have to pay 300, 400, 500 million for Congressional perks.

Yet, beyond the basic issue of dollars and cents, Congress’s perks have other insidious effects. They distort the budget process, by diminishing lawmakers’ moral authority to say “no” to special interest spending requests and benefit boosts for other government officials. They distort the electoral process, by tilting the playing field against their challengers.

Most importantly, they undercut efforts for long-term economic and budget reform, by insulating Members from the real-world effects of their own policies.

American taxpayers and American government would be better served by benefits for Members of Congress that look more like incentives than perks. Enactment of proposals for a defined-contribution pension plan, a scaled-back franking privilege, and a pay level tied to government efficiency, and a term-limit Constitutional amendment would help to restore balance to a system plagued by the trappings of office and political corruption.

Working on this project has shown me the process of how our governments local, state and federal operate and has opened my eyes to what our government is doing to us, not for us, the People and it’s got nothing to do with parties and bipartisanship.

I’m reminded of a quote from one of the Founders (not sure, which one it was):

“It is essential to liberty that the government in general should have a common interest with the people, so it is particularly essential that [Congress] should have an immediate dependence on, and an intimate sympathy with, the people.”

But clearly, this President or the last as well as Our Congress have lost sight of what our Founders envisioned for this Country. It’s all about them and not about us, The People.

Sorry this was so long, it wasn’t my intention to take up a lot of your time, but once I start writing and controlled my thoughts in an organized matter, I just have a hard time stopping.

Those of you traveling this weekend and next week stay safe and keep warm.

  20. Eileen, that was the best, most clearly written piece you have ever written (that I have had the pleasure of reading). It is an excellent explanation of that old adage “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely!”. WOW

    More later.

  21. I am in total agreement with you, Eileen. The greater majority of “Republican” representatives have no more of an idea of what conservative values are than supposedly conservative Democrats.

They put up a front, a “message” front which makes makes about as much common sense as prefabricated postholes, and does does nothing but help prevent the Democrats sell this nation down the tube.

I have, or my state has, only one Republican Senator that holds true Conservative ethics and by his voting record has proven it. Although he is first term, the man will, should he continue with his “the nation first” legislation and voting, I would want to see Mike Johanns there for a long time to come. That would be against any corruption, earmarks, ect.

Once again, I agree that it is our total Congress that has brought the American people to this quandry. Granted the liberals have and know how to accelerate it to the extreme. But over the years it has been a partnership to an extent. Do not believe the partisan- non-partisan BS you hear, behind the scenes our politicians, our “leaders” are the best of friends concerned only with re-election.

  22. Well, I haven’t reached Nebraska yet in my research, but you have to know that Ben Nelson in under a great deal of pressure and stress to continue to stick to his guns. He’s probably is being threatened by the Democratic Leadership, including the President, the President’s inner circle of advisers, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Joe Biden. The question is why the urgency when most of the plan won’t benefit the same people they claim that it’s for, any benefit won’t happen until 2014, although from what I heard some things will go into effect in 2013. To me that’s not urgent. The urgency is about the taxes they want to take and get NOW.

That should be the warning bell for the American taxpayers, which means the money will be used for something else they don’t want to public to know about. Something they know in advance that the public will object too.

So the question then becomes what would the majority of Americans not want. Amnesty is the first thing that comes to mind right away. They know we don’t want it, we told them repeatedly and they still don’t care.

The Democrats will worry about paying for healthcare down the line. They’ll tell us there isn’t enough money to continue to pay for it, so they’ll increase the taxes across the board.

Actually, I really wish the entertainment industry and government employees would just pay their own taxes as this point. Federal employees owe a lot of back taxes. $300 Billion from Postal Workers around the Country. Maybe if they would pay them the burden could be lifted from the rest of us, but I’m sure they’ll find a need anyway.

  23. Someone on another blog said that government employees and military folks were among the worst offenders for not paying taxes. Where did that come from? I’ve never heard that before. Can someone point me to the source for that, please.

If you want to know why it is so critical for obama to get this passed before the end of the year, check out this site: http://thecaptiansquarters.blogspot.com/2009/12/pray-for-peacebut-prepare-for-war.html
    An excerpt from this post:
Kremlin position papers presented to Prime Minister Putin today on his upcoming meeting with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen state that the European-US military alliance has authorized an ‘emergency request’ from President Obama to utilize American and Canadian NATO troops to put down what is expected to be a “rebellion” after the expected January, 2010 ‘declaration of bankruptcy’ by the State of California.

According to these reports, Obama’s fears of rebellion are due to the economic health of California (the United States largest State) after the 3rd largest US State, New York, declared a ‘fiscal emergency’ and refused to release to its cities and towns over $750 Million due them this past week with the Governor of New York, David Paterson, declaring “I can’t say this enough: The state has run out of money.”

New York’s fiscal crisis, however, pales in comparison to California’s, where new economic data points to its expected 5-year budget deficit reaching the staggering amount of over $100 Billion which Russian economists warn will result in budget cuts so steep as to create ‘social chaos’ among this States 36 million citizens.

Reports from the United States are, indeed, confirming the mass movement of military supplies and thousands of Canadian Special Forces Troops to California from the Canadian Forces Base of Petawawa to join their American military counterparts, with ‘secondary’ reports stating that at least 1,000 tanks are massing their too.

Russian Military Analysts are further warning in this report that Obama has decided to implement the feared RAND Corporation (one of the most powerful research arms of the US Military-Industrial-Homeland Security Complex) police state ‘blueprint’ tilted “Stability Police Force for the United States: Justification and Creating U.S. Capabilities” that has been modeled on the Nazi German secret police forces organization Geheime Staatspolizei (Gestapo) meant to ‘control and demoralize’ any opposition to the state.

Even worse for these American people is the legalization process currently embedded in their new health care legislation which will see everyone of them becoming virtual slaves of their government, and as warned about by the Fox News Service in their report titled “Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid of Obama’s Latest Big Brother Plan” and which says:

“Under the Democrats’ national health care scheme not only would OPM be charged with overseeing and administering federal employees health care but they will have the added charge of administering civilian federal health care as well. What does that mean? Basically, that Americans will be treated as “civil servants.” Are you starting to see the danger?

  25. the Progressive Socialist have the perfect storm right now:
    vast majority in the House
    Super-majority in the Senate
    and, the White House.

If they don’t force a 1917 Bolshevik Revolution now, when will they?

Buy lead, food, water, fuel, and more ammo!

  26. Dave, Anaheim, CA :

Wow, that link was blocked really quick. You can’t find it on the blog. It appears somebody doesn’t want it read.

  27. T,

I got the information about the Federal employees from FoxNews who ran a story about it all day on the 14th or 15th of this month.

I went back and checked their website. I got the number right wrong amount which is approximately $300 million, (not billion) total for the Postal Service. This information came directly from the IRS. The IRS believes that 29,000 postal employees haven’t paid their taxes which amounts to approximately $297.93 million which is nearly 10 percent of the $3.04 billion owed by federal employees and retirees from dozens of agencies.

I got the total wrong, which is 3.04 billion owe, not $300 billion. I heard billions and the number 300. I was going by my memory and should have checked prior to publishing my post. My mistake and I apologies for the error, my bad.
As for the military the article mentions (I’m directly quoting from the article) “The military, between active duty personnel and reserves, accounted for $301 million of the total owed to the government. (I personally think that the IRS should give active duty military a break, they are fighting two wars and are under great stress as are their families here in the states).
Military retirees accounted for another $1.34 billion. The only department that came anywhere close to the Postal Service’s IRS bill was the Department of Veterans Affairs, which owed $131.29 million.
That bill was $2.47 million for the U.S. Senate; $5.81 million for the House of Representatives; and about $813,000 for the Executive Office of the President. “
You can read the article directly at FoxNews just search for postal worker taxes.

There also was an article a while ago where many that work at the Pentagon (but mostly the civilian workers) owed a great deal of money to the IRS. I don’t recall where I saw and read the article, but I think it was a Washington base newspaper, Washington Times or the Washington Examiner, because I get both via email everyday. I also don’t recall the amount owed.

You can read another report regarding the back taxes story here http://www.wtop.com/?nid=428&sid=1838232 you can download the information directly from that site. You need excel to open it though. It gives great detail of what is owed by each Department. You can also go to the Postal Report website where I found some information as well.

Let’s not forget that the House of Representative bankrupted their own account and the executive cafeteria that both the House and Senate employees use under Nancy Pelosi leadership. These are the same people who we have given control to fix the economy, when they cannot even balance their own Government checkbook. Boggles the mind, don’t it?

  28. Thanks, Eileen. It sure does confuse us ordinary folks. I know how military retirees can get into that boat. When my hubby retired we assumed that the standard withholdings would be used from his retirement pay. It was NOT and we got a real surprise when we did taxes for that year. Had to fill out a new W-4 for additional withholding for both federal and state taxes.

  29. Great posts Larry and Eileen. You both have very sharp and detailed minds. Eileen, you left out the very generous vacations congress inflicts on themselves. As for incentive pay, why not tie their pay to an hourly wage, make them puch a clock! Or even better yet, hire a time keeper. It would save untold millions.

  30. And then again, a Liberal, Senator Nelson was elected, and *ucked the constituents of his state, not to mention the rest of the Union, and all the while knowing the majority of Nebraskans were against federal health care. I, after two days, am finally calmed down enough that I can use non-construction workers language. (sort of)
Damned DEmocrats, there should be a gas for them, and I ain’t talkin about a propellent!!!

  31. Larry check this out Right you are and those that voted for it committed an unconstitutional act.
http://dancingczars.wordpress.com/2009/12/21/was-the-vote-on-health… The template is there if you live in CA, I’ve already given notice to Boxer and Finestein. All you need to do is look up your state’s Constitution and replace it with several articles of your own, then send the letters registered. If everybody did this the slugs wouldn’t not keep trying to pull the wool over our eyes. I’m Jim

  32. Un-Constitutional?!? Nooo!
Aside from all the buy outs to get his 60 votes, raping the American people in order to satisfy the Black Star of socialism, Harry Reid has tweeked his Senate bill with some interesting literature.Literature that prevents future Senates from changing this health care bill.

There has NEVER been any legislation passed by the Congresses with the prohibition of any future Senates condsidering changes to previously enacted laws or regulations.
What exactly is Harry Reid (and Obama) trying to prevent future Senates from repealing? Why in God’s name would the Senate Majority Leader want to make the Death Panels regulations the only thing in the Obamacare legislation that is NOT subject to amendment, repeal, or change by the United States Senate?!

There is no doubt that this is as anti-Republic and pro-socialist as you can get. There should not have been even one senator, I don’t care how “far left” they may be, that in good conscience voted in favor of that bill.
